If you have discounted yoga due to an issue that prohibits you to get down on the mat, try our chair based yoga series.
This chair adapted series includes all components of a "regular" mat class without having to get down on the floor, which can be problematic for many people. The chair will be used as both a support and a prop and offers the student to create more stability as they practice. If you have an issue that affects your mobility such as arthritis, a joint replacement, MS, Parkinson's, knee issues or recent injuries, this class can allow you all the benefits of yoga in both a gentle and dynamic manner.

Reduce pain, chronic muscular holding and tension and create more ease in movement with Hanna Somatics exercises. These simple movements can help restore your ease of motion and fluidity and re-set the patterning in the brain. Develop awareness of the areas in your body that may be suffering with sensory motor amnesia and have forgotten how to release & relax due to injury, posture or stress. We will look at movements for varying areas of the body including hips, waist and shoulders. Somatics are a great addition to your current exercise regime. Move better & feel better!
What is Hanna Somatics?
Hanna Somatic Education (also known as Hanna Somatics) is a rapidly effective form of neuromuscular (mind/body training) movement re-education that goes directly to the root cause of most chronic muscular pain: the brain and the way in which it senses and organizes the muscles and movement. This popular session is for the complete beginner. The series explores basic hatha yoga postures (asanas), breath awareness and relaxation to create a foundation and confidence to move into a gentle or general level yoga class or even to a different style of yoga.
This class introduces a mindful based hatha yoga that honours each unique body that participates! Learn how to modify postures that work for your body and how to put them together into a short basic sun salutation.
YOGA FOR LOW BACK PAIN SERIES

This series focuses on stretching and strengthening the low back while developing an awareness of the deep core muscles for support. Each week builds on the previous week and lays a foundation for developing good low back health while progressing to more challenging options. Learn tools for creating core support, relaxation and a sense of well-being. The participants may purchase The Essential Low Back Book and CD for home practice from the instructor or a download for use on computer. Suitable for people who experience generalized low back pain due to muscular strain, injury or weakness.
This series is based on yoga practices studied by the National Institutes of Health (U.S.) that were developed by Internationally recognized yoga therapist Robin Rothenberg (USA). Participants of the study experienced significant reduction of pain over a 12-week period.

Each week Jane introduces a new focus topic, a meditative "sit" and a discussion.

Find some time for yourself with a Restorative Yoga class that will be a gift to yourself in countless ways.
Experience the benefits restorative practice. This is a wonderful way to nurture yourself this winter season. Each week you will learn a supported posture that you can do at home with minimal props.
Restorative poses are poses of "being" rather than "doing". The body is placed in a supportive environment using props (bolsters, blankets, blocks & straps) with gentle attention to the breath. The props relieve the muscles and bones from their roles of support and action which then allows the nervous system to send fewer messages and become quieter.
Restorative yoga is beneficial for times when you are stressed from daily life, fatigued, when recovering from illness or injury or for times before, during and after major life events.
Please bring a yoga mat and a blanket.

Kundalini is often referred to as "the yoga of awareness". A practice of yoga that opens your heart, builds strength and releases the energy located at the base of your spine. Kundalini yoga focuses on breath and movement and challenges its students both physically and mentally. In any class, anywhere in the world, you can expect it to include six major components: 1) tuning-in 2) pranayam or warm-up, 3) kriya, 4) relaxation, 5) meditation and 6) close with the blessing song, “May the Long Time Sun Shine Upon You”.
In the ancient tradition that is yoga, Kundalini Yoga is a householder path; that is, it has always been practiced by those with families and jobs. It’s a safe way to stimulate the body’s natural resources and become healthy, happy, and holy—in body, mind and spirit.

SURYA & CHANDRA NAMASKARS

Surya Namaskar or the Sun Salutation is known to create energy and heat to awaken the body while Chandra Namaskar or the Moon Salutation is more meditative, cooling and calming for the body. In this 4 week series we will explore gentle variations of the Sun and Moon Salutations while making these vinyasas safe and enjoyable for all bodies.

STAND STRONG FOR BONE HEALTH SERIES

Have you been diagnosed with Osteopenia or Mild to Moderate Osteoporosis?
This new offering focuses on developing positive postural awareness to maintain good posture and bone health through movement. You will be introduced to the basic foundation exercises as prescribed by Osteoporosis Canada and look at modifications for Yoga practice while maintaining flexibility, strength and safety. Naturopathic Doctor Molly Brass will join us for a class to discuss dietary and lifestyle choices to work with bone health. This is not a chair-based class and participants must be able to get down onto the mat, as many of the benefit exercises are a floor practice. Space is limited.
Experience Deep Relaxation with Divine Sleep

Yoga Nidra is often called "yogic sleep". It is a systematic method of complete relaxation, holistically addressing our physiological, neurological, and subconscious needs. A variety of techniques are often used to help aid in relaxation including guided imagery and body scanning. It is intended to induce full-body relaxation and a deep meditative state of consciousness. Most people think that relaxation is very simple; just recline and close your eyes but unless you have released your muscular, mental and emotional tensions, you are never totally relaxed. Although Savasana is experienced at the end of yoga classes, Yoga Nidra allows more time to really release and experience a deep state of deep relaxation.
